President Trump arrived in Davos, Switerzland on Thursday and needless to say not everyone was happy to see the 45th President of the United States of America. In fact, a group of protesters greeted Trump with a banner that was hung high on a mountain for all to see that read: “Trump Not Welcome.”
Typically, Presidents avoid the World Economic Forum but not Trump. Trump actually spoke on Friday and even took part in a Q&A session. However, things quickly took a turn for the worst when Trump started attacking the media.
Trump told the crowd in Davos, “It wasn’t till I became a politician that I realized how nasty, how mean, how vicious and how fake the press can be, as the cameras start going off in the back,” Trump insisted.
The crowd wanted to no part of Trump’s media bashing and immediately responded with boos. Trump spoke above the boo’s, arguing: “But overall the bottom line, somebody said, ‘But they could have been that bad because here we are, we’re president.’”
This is not the first time the president has attacked the First Amendment and freedom of speech. In fact, Trump’s war on the media has been escalating since he was inaugurated in January of 2017.
Trump has often referred to The New York Times, and CNN as “fake news” for broadcasting negative coverage of him. Many argue that Trump’s attacks on the press resemble how a dictator would act. Bottom line, it’s very un-American.
The president even held “Fake News Awards” earlier this month to mock networks like NBC and CNN for reporting the truth about Trump instead of what he wants them to report. What do you think about Trump’s incessant attacks on the media?
