ICE Agents Detain Michigan Doctor, Green Card-Holder Of 40 Years

President Trump has been a hardliner on immigration ever since he announced his candidacy. But now that he is in The White House, he is doing everything he can to kick illegal immigrants out of the country. But some argue that Trump ultimately wants to end legal immigration as well.

The topic of immigration has led American lawmakers to such discord that the government has been shut down since Friday night due to their failure to pass a funding bill. However, it is important to note, that the president’s racist remarks during the Oval Office meeting on immigration last week did not help agreement talks any.

During a meeting last week, Trump reportedly referred to the predominantly non-white nations such as El Salvador and Haiti as “shithole countries.” The president went on to state his preference for immigrants from predominantly white countries like Norway.

What’s more, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently detained a Michigan doctor has been living and working in the U.S. for nearly forty years. The Polish immigrant, Lukasz Niec, came to America when he was just five years old with his sister and parents.

Niec’s sister, Iwona Niec-Villaire, told reporters that they were unsure when he would be released.  “Until this gets heard, which could be up to six months, he could be stuck in a prison cell and not helping and being with his family.”

Niec reportedly pled guilty to destruction of personal property, which was less than $100, when he was 17-years-old and entered a first-time offender program that deferred his punishment. However,  ICE does not recognize the state’s plea agreement with Niec and have detained him indefinitely.

The news of Niec’s detainment comes on the heels of the lawmakers failing to agree on a solution for Dreamers and funding for Trump’s border wall.
