As questions about President Trump’s mental health come pouring in, one can’t help but be alarmed that this same man has access to the most powerful nuclear weapons on the planet. Letting that fact sink in is enough to terrify even the most stoic of Americans.
Trump nonchalantly speaks about nuclear war like he would about the weather. In the past, Trump has often taunted North Korea’s hostile leader Kim Jong Un’s aggression by petty retaliation. However, Trump’s former strategist and now arch nemesis, advised against a military solution when dealing with North Korea due to the number of innocent lives that would be lost if war were to break out.
But there is not getting through to the egotiscal Trump. His button is “bigger” and he wants the world to know it. Alas, many officials find this type of mentality absolutely frightening. In fact, over fifteen former nuclear launch officers are demanding that lawmakers limit President Trump’s ability to launch nuclear missiles.
The missileers wrote an open letter to lawmakers this week stating their concerns. “One year into the Trump presidency, our alarm has only intensified and we must raise our voices again,” they wrote explaining that they are more concerned than ever before about Trump’s temperament.
In their letter, the retired officers argued, “Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric has put the United States on a collision course with North Korea.” The missileers went on to point out that it “appears the president is operating under the belief that these threats of nuclear war are working” The former nuclear launch officers said they “expect this behavior will continue.”
“We and our nation cannot abide being hostages to the mood swings of a petulant and foolish commander-in-chief,” they insisted. Do you agree?
