The White House of former steak and vodka salesman Donald Trump gifted us with a brand new, priceless expression when his staffers dubbed the time that the president spends watching television, tweeting or otherwise doing nothing as “Executive Time.”
According to a new report, President Trump’s official White House schedule is filled with blocked-off Executive Time and is otherwise embarrassingly light.
Most working Americans report to their jobs between 8 and 9 am every weekday morning, a schedule not imitated by our democratically elected leader, who begins his workday at 11 am. Detailed a report in Axios, based on information provided by insiders familiar with Trump’s White House routine, “Trump’s days in the Oval Office are relatively short—from around 11am to 6pm, then he’s back to the residence. During that time he usually has a meeting or two, but spends a good deal of time making phone calls and watching cable news in the dining room adjoining the Oval. Then he’s back to the residence for more phone calls and more TV.”
Just because President Trump does not report to work at 11 am each morning, that does not mean, of course, that he sleeps in. The Axios article backed up what a report in the New York Times described about the president’s pre-work routine. Stated the Times, “Around 5:30 each morning, President Trump wakes and tunes into the television in the White House’s master bedroom. He flips to CNN for news, moves to Fox & Friends for comfort and messaging ideas, and sometimes watches MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ because, friends suspect, it fires him up for the day.” It continued, “Energized, infuriated — often a gumbo of both — Mr. Trump grabs his iPhone. Sometimes he tweets while propped on his pillow, according to aides. Other times he tweets from the den next door, watching another television. Less frequently, he makes his way up the hall to the ornate Treaty Room, sometimes dressed for the day, sometimes still in night clothes, where he begins his official and unofficial calls.” The reality of Trump’s nearly nonexistent work schedule, however, clearly did not convince White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders that Trump is not a dedicated worker. She recently claimed about Trump’s questionable work ethic, “The President is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen and puts in long hours and long days nearly every day of the week all year long. It has been noted by reporters many times that they wish he would slow down because they sometimes have trouble keeping up with him.” Are you embarrassed that this incompetent, comically entitled man is our president?
