Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, who worked for former President George W. Bush and for Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign in 2008, has proven to be one of the current Republican president’s most forceful and insightful critics.
During a recent appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Schmidt lit into Vice President Mike Pence and his constant lying about Donald Trump’s campaign and its involvement with Russia.
On the show, co-host Mika Brzezinski brought up the fact that the vice president has been asked multiple times about the campaign’s interaction with Russian operatives, and has been consistent in his denials about any contacts. His denials, notably, have been proven wrong every single time. Asked Mika, “At what point is it un-American when you’re asked questions and questions and questions about something obviously curious that’s going on that pertains to Russian meddling, and you are willfully clueless?” Schmidt answered by saying that he does not know why Pence has evaded the same scrutiny about Russia that President Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and others have come under. Stated Steve, “We don’t talk enough about the vice president’s nonstop lying.”
Inquired Brzezinski, “Let’s say you get asked one of those questions on one of those instances, wouldn’t you pick up the phone and say what’s going on? Wouldn’t you care as an American who loves this country to say is this happening?” Steve concurred, answering about Pence, “I think that over these months the vice president’s exposed himself as a titanic fraud. When it comes to consensual relationships between gay Americans, he’s never tongue-tied on that. We don’t hear from him on Roy Moore. We don’t hear from him.” He then added about Trump’s entire circle, “The truth of the matter is, and I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, 100 percent of the time, 100 percent of the people around this administration, when asked a question about Russia, the Russian involvement in this election, they lie about it. Not 99 percent of the time, not 99.9 percent of the time — 100 percent of the time.” Do you agree with Schmidt about Pence’s serial lying? Watch the full discussion below:
