Radio blabbermouth Rush Limbaugh has stayed relevant to conservative listeners over the decades by latching on to whatever is the dominant strain of belief among right-wingers and championing it.
The recent, substantiated sexual assault allegations against Republican Alabama Senate candidate have put Rush in a bit of a pickle, since there are conflicting reactions to the sitaution among Republicans of differing motivations. Limbaugh found a clever but absurd way of splitting the difference by trying to blame Moore’s many incidences of sexual misconduct on the fact that he was a Democrat when he did them.
On his program, Limbaugh attempted to dissect the dynamics that he feels are behind the current Roy Moore scandal. He claimed that it is a manifestation of warfare within the current Republican Party. Rush stated, “Whether Judge Moore did the deed or deeds or not, what’s really happening here folks, if you really want to know – it’s a multi-faceted search-and-destroy mission here.” He went on, “But what’s really driving this – do not doubt me about this. But what’s really driving this is Mitch McConnell saying to Steve Bannon, ‘Really? You think you’re going to get your guys elected? You think you are going to get your guys elected and me kicked out of here? Really? Seriously? OK, watch this.’”
Rush added, warming up to his big scoop, “So no matter what the real stories are here and no matter what the evidence is, these guys, these people on the Republican side are making it clear they’re going to prevent this guy from ever being seated in the United States Senate.” He then dropped a “bombshell” on his listening audience, asking them, “Did you know that before 1992 when a lot of this was going on that Judge Moore was a Democrat? You didn’t know that?” He added, “How about all these people now saying, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah, everybody here knew about Judge Moore. Oh-ho-ho, yeah, good old boy we’ve known about Judge Moore for a long time.’ While he was a Democrat. Nobody said a word. When he supposedly was attracted to inappropriately aged girls, he was a Democrat. For what it’s worth.” Is this a stretch, even by ridiculous Rush Limbaugh standards? Listen to the clip below:
