Mass Shooting At Northern California School Leaves Five Dead

Not even two weeks after a gunman opened fire in a Texas church killing 26 innocent people, another terrible senseless act of violence occurred in Northern California this morning.  Sources report that a lone gunman opened fire at Rancho Tehama Elementary School in northern California. After it was all said and done, five people were left dead, including the shooter. Three children, including a six-year-old, and one adult have been airlifted to the Enloe Medical Center.

According to authorities, the shooter’s truck was stolen. The gunman is reportedly a felon in his 50s’ named Kevin.

Gov. Jerry Brown reacted to the incident by stating:  “Anne and I are saddened to hear about today’s violence in Tehama County, which shockingly involved schoolchildren. We offer our condolences to the families who lost loved ones and unite with all Californians in grief.”  Senator Kamala Harris tweeted:”Heartbroken by the news of a shooting at an elementary school in Rancho Tehama. Grateful to the officers and first responders on the scene. I am closely monitoring the situation.”

Thus far, this marks the 317th mass shooting in the United States so far this year, according to GunViolenceArchive.org. 645 children under the age of 12 have been injured or killed by gunfire this year. When is enough going to be enough? Lawmakers are currently considering legislation that would ban assault rifles and “bump stocks”, a device used to make firearms fire like automatic weapons. But will it pass?
