Alabama Mall Banned Roy Moore Because He Kept Trying To Pick Up Teens

Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore rose to national prominence for refusing to remove a Ten Commandments monument that he had installed in his courthouse. Somehow, this act of defiance against church and state separation turned him into a hero to enough Alabamans that they made him the Republican Party’s nominee to fill Jeff Sessions’ former Senate seat.

Unfortunately for Moore, some very unsavory details have come out about his predilection for high school girls when he was a 30something district attorney. In one deeply embarrassing and troubling anecdote, Moore was actually barred from one mall in Alabama during the 70’s and 80’s because he kept trying to pick up teenage girls there.

The New Yorker recently published an account from several sources who verified that he had been banned from the Gadsden Mall in northeast Alabama due to his constant harassment of high school girls. Stated the report, “Greg Legat, who is now fifty-nine and living in East Gadsden, was, from 1981 to 1985, an employee at the Record Bar, a store that was in the Gadsden Mall. By the early eighties, Legat told me, the mall was ‘the place to be. There were no empty stores. And lots of kids came around. Lots of teen-agers. You went there to see and be seen.’ Legat met his wife, Jo Anne, there. She worked at a restaurant called Orange Bowl. Legat remembers that parents dropped their kids off at the mall, typically unchaperoned. Teens filled the place.”

Stated Legat, who recalls seeing Roy there on a few occasions despite having been banned, “It started around 1979, I think. I know the ban was still in place when I got there.” Remembering a local police officer named J.D. Thomas who maintained a presence at the mall, Greg said, “J. D. was a fixture there, when I was working at the store. He really looked after the kids there. He was a good guy. J. D. told me, ‘If you see Roy, let me know. He’s banned from the mall.’” J.D. told him further, “If you see Moore here, tell me. I’ll take care of him.’” Greg also stated that his own boss Eddie Hill instructed him to keep a lookout for Moore. Do you think creepy Roy Moore is unfit to serve in the Senate?
