On Tuesday, Democratic Rep. Al Green (Texas) made a major announcement.
While standing on the GOP side of the House chamber, Green announced, “I rise today as a proud American — a person who believes in his country, who salutes the flag and says the Pledge of Allegiance and sings the national anthem. Mr. Speaker I rise because my heart tells me that I must do something.”
Green continued, “I will stand here in the well of the Congress, and I will call for the impeachment of the president of the United States of America.”
Later on Tuesday, Green confirmed his announcement via Twitter.
“Next week, I will officially be introducing articles of impeachment against the President of the United States. #RepealAndReplaceTrump,” he tweeted.
This is not the first time Green has thought about calling to impeach President Trump.
In June, Green told The Hill that he would force a House floor vote to impeach Trump if he attempted to fire Robert Mueller.
“If the president fires the current special counsel, I will then bring articles of impeachment to the floor immediately, if not sooner. I think that would be a part of the last straw, if not the last straw, if he did that,” Green told The Hill.
