Miss Texas Margana Wood did not win the most recent Miss America pageant. She finished as fourth runner-up, losing to Miss North Dakota Cara Mund.
However, as far as social media is concerned, Margana Wood won the night with her sharp-tongued takedown of President Donald Trump during the final question round.
Pageant judge Jess Cagle asked Margana, “Last month, a demonstration of neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and the KKK in Charlottesville turned violent and a counterprotester was killed. The president said there was shared blamed with ‘very fine people on both sides.’ Were there? Tell me yes or no and explain.” The question round is infamous for eliciting bumbling answers from contestants, but Miss Texas presented perfect poise in delivering her answer. Responded Margana memorably, “I think that the white supremacist issue was very obvious. That it was a terrorist attack and I think that President Donald Trump should have made a statement earlier, addressing the fact and in making sure all Americans feel safe in this country. That is the Number One issue right now.”
The pageant’s audience broke out into cheers, and the praise continued on social media, with some commenting that Wood responded in a far more “presidential” manner to the Charlottesville riots than Donald Trump did. Wrote one Twitter user, ” Miss TX. She spoke up with world watching. #MarganaWood lost the beauty queen crown, but she is royalty to me.” Added another, “#MissTexas, #MarganaWood, just demonstrated what true beauty is… courage, compassion & strength of conviction.#MissAmerica #TrueBeauty” Judge Jess Cagle even chimed in after the pageant on his Instagram account, commenting, ” Congrats Miss Texas @marganawood on the best answer of the night. Proud to be from your state!” Are you glad that Miss Texas Margana Wood used the platform to speak out against Trump? Watch her answer below:
