President Trump caused outrage among both political parties, as well as Americans, when it was announced that he would be ending the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Many Trump supporters have recently spoken out against Trump’s decision. Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) is the latest GOP member to break with Trump on this key issue.
During an interview with CNN’s “New Day,” Collins spoke about Trump’s decision to end DACA.
“I believe we’re better than that. We are a compassionate country.”
Collins continued, stating, “I know, I come from a big dairy area, and also add where the undocumented workers — that’s what I call them, I don’t want to call them illegal immigrants, I prefer the term undocumented workers — are working hard. They’ve been there in some cases for well over ten years, raising their families. We need to recognize that.”
On Tuesday, President Trump had Attorney General Jeff Sessions officially announce the end of DACA. It is planned to be phased out in 6 months.
However, in a strange move on Thursday, Trump tweeted out a message of support to those concerned about DACA.
“For all those (DACA) that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about – No action!”
