On Sunday night, host of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” John Oliver stood up for CNN’s Jim Acosta following his recent exchange with Trump’s political advisor Stephen Miller.
During a White House press briefing last week, Acosta said, “The Statue of Liberty says, ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.’ It doesn’t say anything about speaking English or being able to be a computer programmer.”
Miller responded, “The [Emma Lazarus] poem that you’re referring to was added later. It’s not actually a part of the original Statue of Liberty.”
After Miller’s response was played on the show, Oliver chimed in and blasted the adviser.
“Wait, though: Just because it wasn’t part of the original does not mean it is worthless. Some of the best things ever made were changed part way through. Did you know, for instance, there was a time when Fast and Furious movies didn’t have The Rock in them? It’s true, and they sucked. That’s why they added the f—ing Rock,” Oliver said.
He then went after Miller, saying, “He is truly one of the most revolting humans … I have ever seen. You know, in a way, there is no more fitting spokesman for the Trump administration than an entitled, elitist asshole who refuses to take responsibility for the messes he makes and who can somehow manage to pick a fight with a f—ing statue.”
