Thursday was a busy day in Washington due to the recent revelations of Donald Trump Jr.’s email thread that shows he conspired to find damaging information on Clinton. Not only did Trump Jr. meeting with the Russian lawyer who promised the Clinton dirt, but so did Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner. Now, the Democrats are calling for the administration to revoke Kushner’s security clearance and requesting that Trump Jr. testify.
But President Trump is doing what he does best: blame someone else for all his self-inflicted problems. Trump’s usual scapegoats are Hillary Clinton, the media, and former President Obama. In fact, Trump blamed the Obama administration for letting a Russian lawyer who initiated the meeting, into the country. Trump claimed that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch permitted Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya to travel into the country, ultimately blaming her for the meeting. Trump exclaimed: “She was here because of Lynch.”
Trump went on to tell reporters at a press conference in France that “most people” would have taken that the meeting to get the damaging Intel on Clinton. Trump said, “Nothing happened from the meeting. Zero happened from the meeting, and honestly, I think the press made a big deal over something that many people would do.”
Moreover, Trump steadfastly denied his son’s wrongdoing by stating: “I think from a practical standpoint, most people would have taken that meeting. It’s called opposition research. Politics is not the nicest business in the world, but it’s very standard.”
At the end of the day, Lynch granted Veselnitskaya’s special immigration parole for the sole purpose of helping a company owned by Russian businessman Denis Katsyv, her client, defend itself against a Justice Department asset forfeiture case in New York City. Surely, Lynch would not have granted the parole has she know about the emails. How can Trump blame Lynch for just doing her job?
