Following Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump suggested that the US should work with Russia on cyber security. Many were baffled at the suggestion, especially because of the evidence that Russia meddled in the US presidential election. On NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” one GOP Senator had some harsh words for President Trump and his ridiculous suggestion.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C) spoke about how absurd the idea is.
“When it comes to Russia I am dumbfounded, I am disappointed, and at the end of the day he’s hurting his presidency by not embracing the fact that Putin is a bad guy,” he said.
Graham continued to bash Trump, stating, “He is literally the only person I know of who doesn’t believe Russia attacked our election in 2016. This whole idea about moving forward without punishing Russia is undermining his entire presidency. The more you do this, the more people are suspicious about you and Russia. I am intent on punishing the Russians for interfering in our election.”
Trump’s suggestion of working with Russia is really baffling. It is also alarming that Trump appears to be one of the only people in the government who refuses to accept the fact that Russia meddled in the presidential election. By letting them off the hook, Trump is showing weakness, something he always claimed he would never do.
